PUBLIC NOTICE | UPRR 22nd Street Yard VRP Site Proposed Remedial Action Plan Available for Comment

ADEQ has received a Proposed Remedial Action Plan (PRAP) for the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) 22nd Street Yard VRP site in Tucson, Arizona. The PRAP was submitted in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) §49-175 and provides the details for implementing the ADEQ-approved remedy. The PRAP proposes implementation of Distributed Light Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (LNAPL) Recovery as the remedy at the site. This remedy includes bioventing and skimming pumps in wells connected to the existing onsite remediation system, and sorbent tubes and bailing in wells not connected to the onsite remediation system. In addition, the PRAP proposes semi-annual groundwater monitoring and sampling program where metrics will be evaluated.

Site Information

The UPRR 22nd Street Yard VRP site consists of groundwater affected by benzene and LNAPL. The affected groundwater is roughly bounded by 21st Street to the north, 27th Street to the south, Santa Rita Avenue to the west, and Plumer Avenue to the east.
