PUBLIC NOTICE - EXTENDED COMMENT PERIOD | Notice of Availability Klondyke Tailings WQARF PRAP
ADEQ is extending the comment period for the proposed remedial action plan (PRAP) for the Klondyke Tailings Project Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) site in Graham County, Ariz.1 The PRAP documents the results of the remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) and identifies the proposed remedy and its estimated costs.
Information
The Klondyke Tailings Project WQARF site consists of surficial soil contamination located in Graham County. The site is two miles north of the town of Klondyke in Section 6, Township 7 South, Range 20 East with boundaries defined by the extent of soil contamination above the residential soil remediation level (SRL) for lead of 400 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg). The site boundary is irregular and includes property containing tailings piles and several surrounding properties. Contaminants of concern at the site are antimony, arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, manganese, mercury and zinc.
Proposed site remedy: In-place capping of existing tailings piles within engineered repositories with a contingency of in-place capping of impacted soils to protect future land use.
