PHOENIX (May 9, 2019) – Leading-edge environmental protection in today’s modern world requires effective and efficient management, as well as development of online and digital tools for permitting and reporting. Successful application of these approaches by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has increased mission outcomes to protect and enhance public health and the environment and is now drawing attention from leadership at similar agencies around the nation and world.

This week, ADEQ is hosting nearly 60 members from the E-Enterprise Leadership Council. The Council brings together leaders from U.S. state and tribal environmental agencies, as well as political appointees and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) employees. During the visit, these leaders will see and learn how results-driven decisions through the Arizona Management System (AMS) can improve performance. They will also gain insight into the creation and ongoing expansion of myDEQ, an online environmental and permitting platform with an estimated annual economic benefit of $145 million.

“Governor Ducey consistently asks state agencies to leverage great ideas, no matter where they come from,” said Misael Cabrera, ADEQ Director. “Hosting other environmental agencies not only allows us to share our progress, it also gives us the opportunity to learn from our guests — it's a win, win!”

The E-Enterprise Leadership Council is one of many groups to visit ADEQ to observe the ongoing application of AMS and e-initiatives. Previous visitors include representatives from:

  • 19 U.S. state environmental agencies
  • EPA headquarters and 6 EPA regions
  • 4 countries — Mexico, Chile, Macedonia, Singapore (city-state)
