What Are My Health Risks?

For Soil | There is little to no health risk unless there is contact with skin or ingestion of contaminated soil.

For Groundwater | If you are connected to a Public Water System (PWS) there is little to no risk of impact from exceedances because the water is filtered through the PWS for residential and business use. | View Drinking Water Notices >

Site Summary:

  • Site soil characterization activities completed August 2017
  • As part of Remedial Investigation, potable wells within the vicinity of the plume will be identified and sampled if within radius of the site
  • A report summarizing site conditions and evaluating residual risk was received by the VRP on Jan. 22, 2020
  • The VRP concurs with the findings in the residual risk evaluation and provided conditional approval in Feb. 2020, with final approval pending review by the current landowner
  • The current landowner contacted ADEQ for an extension to the review period for the residual risk evaluation. ADEQ granted the extension for the landowner (BNSF) and the new comment period will run from May 11 through June 10, 2020
  • ADEQ and the Volunteer received comments on the residual risk evaluation from the current landowner on June 4, 2020. The Volunteer prepared a response to comments (RTC), which was approved by the VRP and issued to the landowner on September 25, 2020. The residual risk evaluation was also approved on this date
  • A request for a determination of No Further Action (an NFA Report) was received and approved to go out for public comment in January 2021. The public comment period on the NFA Report runs from Feb. 5, 2021, through March 22, 2021 | View Public Notice & NFA Report >
    • Although the general public notice period ends on March 22, there is an extended notice period for stakeholders identified during the project lifecycle. These specific stakeholders have received individual notice via personalized mailers which initiated an extended 45-day notice period for the NFA Report. This extended notice period for those specific stakeholders runs from March 1 through April 14, 2021.
