Why do I need a Biosolids Land Application Registration?

Arizona Pollutant Discharge Elemination System (AZPDES)

Biosolids Land Application Registration

Revised On: Feb. 13th, 2025 - 11:55 am

This registration is for people who wish to apply biosolids to land. This includes land application sites, reclamation sites, composting sites and biosolids processing facilities. Biosolids are nutrient-rich organic byproducts resulting from wastewater treatment that can be beneficially recycled. Only biosolids that meet pathogen reduction methods, vector attraction reduction methods and pollutant levels as established in rule may be land applied. This registration is valid as long as the site is approved and is used for at least three consecutive years. The registration is not transferable from one location to another, or from applicator to another.
