The Apache Powder Superfund Site is located approximately seven miles southeast of the incorporated town of Benson and two-and-a-half miles southwest of the unincorporated town of St. David in Cochise County, Arizona. Study area covers approximately nine square-miles and includes 1,600 acres of land owned by Apache Nitrogen Products Inc. (ANPI), formerly known as the Apache Powder Company. Northern Area Groundwater
- Bioremediation activities ongoing, including Operation and Maintenance (O&M) in accordance with the EPA approved modified O&M plan of 2020
Southern Area Groundwater
- Explanation of Significant Differences (ESD) #4 closed remedy of monitored natural attenuation (MNA), and retains long-term groundwater monitoring and Institutional Controls in 2017

Status
Ongoing remedial work continues at the site.
Northern Area Groundwater
- Currently updating the O&M Plan and data provided in an annual O&M report to EPA and ADEQ this summer. This site is subject to a programmatic five-year review and the next review will be conducted in 2027.
Southern Area Groundwater
- Currently data is provided in an annual report to EPA and ADEQ this summer. This site is subject to a programmatic five-year review and the next review will be conducted in 2027.
