On July 24, 2024, the comment period begins for the proposal to issue an Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) renewal permit to the U.S. Department of the Interior – Bureau of Reclamation for the Hoover Dam Wastewater and Water Treatment Plants that discharge into Mohave County, Arizona. The comment period ends Aug. 22, 2024.

USBR applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 0.061 million gallons per day of treated domestic wastewater and filter backwash water from the Hoover Dam Wastewater and Water Treatment Plants to the Colorado River in Mohave County, Arizona. The facility is a federally-owned treatment works that treats domestic wastewater generated by tourists and employees mixed with filter rinse and backwash water from the water treatment plant. The facility is located in Boulder City, Nevada, however the outfall discharges into Arizona. Sludge is disposed of at two drying beds located on-site for long-term storage prior to landfill disposal.
