On Oct. 16, 2024, the comment period begins for the proposal to issue an Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) renewal permit to the City of Somerton for the proposed discharge of up to 1.8 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the Somerton Wastewater Treatment Plant in Yuma County, Arizona. The comment period ends Nov. 18, 2024.

The City of Somerton applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 1.8 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated domestic wastewater from the Somerton Wastewater Treatment Plant to the Yuma Main Drain in the Colorado River Basin in Township 10 S, Range 24 W, Section 4, in Yuma County, Arizona. The Somerton Wastewater Treatment Plant is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential sources in Somerton. Sludge is handled by a dewatering screw press and treated to Class B biosolids. Biosolids are sent to AgTech for land application in Somerton, Arizona.
