On Sept. 21, 2024, the comment period begins for the proposal to issue an Arizona Pollution Discharge Elimination System (AZPDES) renewal permit to Frito-Lay, Inc. for the proposed discharge of up to 0.69 million gallons per day (mgd) of treated process wastewater generated from the manufacturing of salty snack foods from the Frito-Lay – Casa Grande Facility to an unnamed wash that is tributary to the North Branch of the Santa Cruz in Pinal County, Arizona. The comment period ends Oct. 21, 2024.

Frito-Lay, Inc. applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 0.69 mgd of treated process wastewater generated from the manufacturing of salty snack foods from the Frito-Lay – Casa Grande Facility to an unnamed wash that is tributary to the North Branch of the Santa Cruz, which is tributary to the Santa Cruz Wash in the Santa Cruz River Basin in Township 6 S, Range 5 E, Section 14, in Pinal County, Arizona. The Frito-Lay – Casa Grande is an industrial Salty Snack Food Manufacturing Plant that treats wastewater. Discharges from the facility will only occur when the Low-Pressure Reverse Osmosis (LPRO) system is offline, during the replacement of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC), while performing preventative maintenance on the LPRO system, when production exceeds demand, or during emergency situations.
