Helping Schools, Businesses and Municipalities Reduce Waste

PHOENIX (September 19, 2018) – The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) launched a Recycling Toolkit for Pollution Prevention Week, Sept. 17 – 21, 2018. This comprehensive online resource will help schools, businesses and municipalities develop or expand current recycling programs, and provide a wealth of recycling resources to residents to proactively develop recycling plans to present to their community leaders.

Organizations and communities with robust recycling programs can have positive impacts to the environment, public health and local economy. Schools that implement recycling programs help teach children waste reduction habits to preserve natural resources for future generations. For businesses, these programs can contribute to a company’s bottom line as well as rally community support. Great recycling programs:

  • Keep neighborhoods cleaner and healthier
  • Get citizens involved in their communities
  • Better prepare organizations for responsible growth
  • Divert waste from landfills to give it new life as renewed resource
  • Save money

The Recycling Toolkit originated from numerous phone calls and e-mails routed to ADEQ Recycling Coordinator JB Shaw.

“There was no one-stop online resource where coordinators and the public could get information specific to Arizona,” said Shaw. “Now local governments and people in the community can find information, plus connect with other successful recycling program across the state, to launch or expand their own efforts to reduce impact on the environment by reducing waste.”

The webinar is scheduled for 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and includes speakers from ADEQ, AzLTA and Hotel Congress, a Certified Green Lodging program participant.
