The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) determined it necessary to reopen this permit for modification to adjust the upcoming compliance deadline while ADEQ and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) review appropriate designated uses. A proposed discharge of up to 12 million gallons per day (MGD) of treated domestic wastewater from the facility to the Colorado River in Yuma County, Arizona. The facility is a publicly owned treatment works that receives domestic wastewater from residential and commercial sources in Yuma. Sludge is stabilized in an aerobic digester and then thickened and then hauled for agricultural land application by an independent contractor.
