The United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, Yuma Area Office applied for a renewal AZPDES permit for the proposed discharge of up to 22.5 million gallons per day (MGD) of desalinated water from the Yuma Desalting Plant and 0.4 MGD of desalinated water from the on-site Water Quality Improvement Center (WQIC) to the Colorado River in Yuma County, Arizona. The desalting plant and on-site WQIC use reverse osmosis to desalinate irrigation return flows from the Yuma Main Outlet Drain Extension.
