On July 4, 2026, the comment period begins for the preliminary decision to issue an amendment to an Individual Aquifer Protection Program (APP) Permit to the Town of Jerome for the Town of Jerome Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) located in Yavapai County, Arizona. The comment period ends Aug. 2, 2026.
APP Permit No.: 511628
The requirements in this permit will allow the permittee to comply with the two key requirements of the APP: 1) meet Aquifer Water Quality Standards at the Point of Compliance; and 2) demonstrate Best Available Demonstrated Control Technology.
Permittee:
Town of Jerome
Facility:
Town of Jerome WWTP
Sewer Plant Road
Jerome, Arizona
Yavapai County
The Town of Jerome owns and operates one WWTP for treatment of municipal wastewater generated within Town limits. The WWTP receives wastewater through the gravity collection system owned and maintained by the Town.
The purpose of the amendment is to increase the permitted flow rate from 70,000 gallons per day (gpd) to 90,000 gpd by upgrading the biological treatment process to improve treatment performance. The existing screens, the settling tank, trickling filters, reed beds, and wetland cells will be replaced with new processes. Secondary treatment will be provided by sequencing batch reactors, which will be installed near the existing trickling filters.
