VIRTUAL STAKEHOLDER MEETING | AWQS Implementation: Baseline Monitoring Templates, Guidance, Amendment Schedule (Phases), & Questions

The seven new or adjusted Aquifer Water Quality Standards (AWQS) and an implementation rule took effect Aug. 4, 2025. In most cases, Individual Aquifer Protection Program (APP) permit holders are required to start new baseline monitoring by Nov. 4, 2025.

The seven new or adjusted AWQS are for the following parameters: arsenic, bromate, chlorite, microbiological contaminants, haloacetic acids, total trihalomethanes, and uranium.

ADEQ will host a virtual meeting to discuss the new or adjusted AWQS and the implementation rule | View Rule > 

The meeting will cover:

  • Baseline monitoring requirements
  • The individual APP permit amendment schedule (permit amendment submission phases)
  • New or adjusted AWQS guidance 
  • Answers to frequently asked questions
