All PDHs must be earned between your certification’s effective and expiration date. A certification can have a window from six months to three years. Confirm that the start and end dates of the training are within the timeframe. For example, if your effective date is Nov. 5, 2021, PDHs earned Nov. 4, 2021, and prior cannot be used for the certification’s renewal.
Yes. The Arizona Department of Administration manages the payment site, which sends an email and attached receipt upon payment. This receipt is sent to the email address entered on the payment screen (not necessarily the email on file in the Operator Database).
An examinee can take the exam(s) as many times as they wish, with no wait time between each exam. The individual is beholden to testing schedule availability and will need to pay for each exam, regardless if it is a retake.
The Operator Certification Portal is the solo source for operator certification renewal and upgrades. All checks and PDHs mailed to ADEQ will be returned to the sender.

If the certification expires, the operator will have 90 days after the expiration date to renew. Once the 90 days have passed, the certifications are labeled inactive. Once inactive, the operator will need to retest at Grade or above if they held the prior certification for at least one year (365 days).
Email your exam proctor, either Gateway Community College or City of Phoenix. Policy for rescheduling and canceling examinations are listed on the proctoring locations’ website.
Upgrade (new certification) and renewals are two different processes. If you add a new certification, you will be required to upload PDHs and your fee will be lower, unlike a renewal | Learn More >
