PUBLIC NOTICE | Hazardous Waste Permit for U.S. Army Garrison Yuma (USAGY)
A hazardous waste permit intends to be issue for U.S. Army Garrison Yuma (USAGY).
Facility Name
U.S. Army Garrison Yuma (USAGY)
Information
The draft permit would allow USAGY to continue operation of a hazardous waste munitions treatment facility (MFT) for open burning and open detonation within the Kofa firing range on the U.S. Army Garrison Yuma Proving Ground. The draft permit specifies the performance standards for hazardous waste treatment, and updates corrective action requirements at Yuma Proving Ground. This notice commences a 45-day public comment period from April 25, 2017 through June 9, 2017.
The Munitions Treatment Facility is operating under a permit issued by ADEQ on June 29, 2007, pursuant to the Arizona Hazardous Waste Management Act (AHWMA). This proposed permit would allow the facility to continue to treat specific reactive and ignitable hazardous wastes using open burning and open detonation in accordance with Arizona rules established to protect human health and the environment. The permit would be effective for ten (10) years. USAGY does not operate any storage or disposal units at the facility, and none are proposed in the draft permit.
