Stone and Grant | Site Overview

Registry placement date: Jan. 20, 2017

Score: 45

County: Pima

Location: Tucson, generally bounded to the north by the East Alturas Street, to the south by East Sahuaro Street, to the east by North Estrella Avenue and to the west by North Castro Avenue. The site includes a mixture of public, commercial and residential land uses near Grant Road.

Contaminants of concern: Tetrachloroethene (PCE)

Action taken: Phase I and II Environmental Assessments were completed in 2014 by the City of Tucson that showed soil-gas contaminated with PCE beneath the building at 2332 North Stone Ave.  A preliminary investigation report was completed by ADEQ in February 2016, and a Remedial Investigation (RI) was begun in July 2017.  Four regional groundwater wells were installed that showed no PCE impacts to groundwater and additional shallow soil-gas data has been collected.  In addition, ADEQ implemented an Early Response Action that utilizes soil vapor extraction (SVE) in November 2017.  ADEQ underground storage tank program has also been remediating a leaking underground storage tank (LUST) located at 1 East Grant Road.  PCE was found in perched groundwater at the LUST site.

Status: This site is in the RI phase and ADEQ is evaluating what data will be needed to complete the RI.  An Early Response Action has been implemented at the primary source property.
