Operator Certification Committee

ADEQ’s Operator Certification Program establishes standards and guidelines for the certification of drinking water and wastewater system and facility operators | See A.A.C. Title 18, Chapter 5 >

The Operator Certification Committee supports ADEQ's Operator Certification Program. Committee members participate in virtual or in-person meetings at least twice a year to provide technical advice and develop recommendations to ensure a sustainable, leading-edge program for Arizona’s water and wastewater-certified operators. 

Committee Members

The committee consists of 11 members, serving a maximum term of 3 years:

  • An ADEQ employee
  • A wastewater treatment plant operator with a Grade 4 certification
  • A water treatment plant operator with a Grade 4 certification
  • A wastewater collection system operator with a Grade 4 certification
  • A water distribution system operator with a Grade 4 certification
  • A faculty member teaching sanitary sciences at an Arizona university or community college
  • A professional engineer, registered and residing in Arizona, engaged in consulting in the field of sanitary engineering
  • An elected or appointed municipal official
  • A representative of an investor-owned water or wastewater facility
  • A representative of a small public water system
  • A remote operator representative
  • Grade 4-certified water treatment plant operator (currently employed)
  • A representative of a small public water system
