Proposed 2024 PM2.5 NAAQS Boundary Recommendations Draft Report

Posted on: Sept. 23, 2024 - 7:00 a.m.

On Sept. 23, 2024, the comment period begins for the proposed 2024 PM2.5 National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) Boundary Recommendations Draft Report and Technical Support Document (TSD). The draft recommendations, and TSD, propose areas for nonattainment, attainment, and unclassifiable designations throughout the state for the 9.0 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) NAAQS. The comment period ends Oct. 24, 2024.

Background

On Feb. 7, 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) revised the primary annual NAAQS for fine particulates (PM2.5) from 12.0 micrograms per cubic meter (µg/m3) to 9.0 µg/m3. As a result, ADEQ developed its proposed boundary recommendations describing the geographic extent of attainment, nonattainment, or unclassifiable areas of the state with respect to the revised annual PM2.5 standard.
