PUBLIC NOTICE | Availability of Proposed Remedial Action Plan for Shannon Road/El Camino Del Cerro WQARF Site

ADEQ has completed the proposed remedial action plan (PRAP) for the Shannon Road/El Camino Del Cerro Water Quality Assurance Revolving Fund (WQARF) site in Tucson, Arizona [Arizona Administrative Code R18-16-408(C)]. The PRAP documents the results of the remedial investigation/feasibility study (RI/FS) and identifies the proposed remedy and its estimated costs.

Information

The Shannon Road/El Camino del Cerro WQARF site consists of a groundwater plume located in Tucson, Arizona. The extent of plume is bounded approximately to the north by West Rudasill Road, to the south by El Camino del Cerro Road, to the east by North Moonbrook Road and to the west by with industrial properties, residential properties and a former landfill that occupies approximately 20 acres in the southwest portion. The contaminants of concern at the site are tetrachloroethene (PCE), trichloroethene (TCE), 1,1-dichloroethene (1,1-DCE), cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cis-1,2-DCE) and vinyl chloride.

The proposed remedy for the site is as follows: Hydraulic control and remediation of the plume source and extent using the South Shannon Well and wellhead treatment and an extraction well at the former El Camino del Cerro Landfill, maintenance of the existing El Camino del Cerro Landfill cover, monitored natural attenuation throughout the plume, and various contingency actions to account for potential uncertainties as cleanup progresses. The estimated cost to implement this remedy is approximately $32.2 million for a period of 30 years.
