Karen L. Peters - Director

Governor Katie Hobbs appointed Karen Peters as director of ADEQ in December 2022. Peters joins ADEQ from her position as Deputy City Manager for the City of Phoenix and after 18 years of practice as an attorney and former partner with Squire Sanders & Dempsey L.L P. She received her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1987 and B.S. summa cum laude from Arizona State University in 1984. Peters has served as a Trustee for The Nature Conservancy, Arizona Chapter, and as a member and Past President of the Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Science Alumni Board, the Board of Directors of Phoenix Day Child and Family Learning Center, the State Bar of Arizona Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, and the Board of Directors of the Arizona League of Conservation Voters. She co-chaired the Arizona Groundwater Cleanup Task Force which made recommendations for reform in 1997 of Arizona's state Superfund laws.
