PUBLIC NOTICE | Proposed Leaking Underground Storage Tank Case Clean Up in Phoenix
A Corrective Action Plan (CAP) dated Nov. 30, 2021, has been submitted to ADEQ. The CAP contains a proposal to clean up petroleum contamination from an underground storage tank (UST) system at the following facility:
Leaking UST Case File No.: 5714.01
Facility ID No.: 0-003274
Maricopa County
Facility Address:
Speedsmart #120, Inc.
2402 E. Washington St.
Phoenix, AZ 85034
The proposed activities include the following cleanup technologies that will be used to obtain the cleanup levels that are protective of public health, welfare and the environment:
Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA): MNA is the remedial alternative proposed to address residual contaminants in the soil. There are currently no known contaminant detections in groundwater above ADEQ standards. Monitored natural attenuation is an in-situ remediation technology that relies on natural processes in soil and groundwater to reduce the concentration of the contaminants with time. Natural attenuation involves both aerobic and anaerobic indigenous microorganisms that contribute to contaminant reduction in addition to other physical and chemical processes. The time required for these natural processes to completely reduce the level of impact in the soil is dependent upon a number of factors including the concentrations of oxygen in the soil, permeability, temperature, variations in the groundwater table, soil moisture content, presence and growth of flora and microbial activity, and nutrient availability.
