ADEQ Director Owens Announces More Green Auto Shops 

PHOENIX (Oct. 28, 2008) -- Arizona Department of Environmental Quality
Director Steve Owens today announced that three more auto shops have
joined ADEQ's Green Automotive Shops program, which recognizes and
encourages environmentally friendly practices at automotive repair
facilities throughout the state. 

The new members are: 

*	Buck's Automotive Service Center, 4360 N. First Ave., Tucson
*	Brake Max #3, 10529 N. Oracle Road, Tucson
*	Hickey Automotive, Inc., 250 W. Calle de las Tiendas, Green
Valley

With the new additions, there are now 30 facilities participating in the
ADEQ Green Automotive Shops program.

"The Green Automotive Shops program is part of our Arizona Green
Business initiative, which recognizes businesses for going above and
beyond the minimum requirements of the law and being good environmental
stewards," said ADEQ Director Owens.  "The Green Automotive Shops
program has been a terrific success.  Not only are these repair shops
doing the right thing to help protect the environment, this is also a
great way for these shops to set themselves apart from other repair
facilities."

The repair facilities participating in ADEQ's Green Automotive Shops
program are taking a number of important steps to minimize the
environmental impact of their activities, such as eliminating or
reducing hazardous waste going to landfills and diverting potentially
contaminated water from unprotected storm drains and waterways. They
also examine their front-office processes, parts-management programs,
housekeeping, parts cleaning and degreasing, fluid recycling and
energy-use policies to reduce or prevent pollution.

The innovative Green Automotive Shops program is a public-private
partnership that ADEQ is conducting with AAAArizona and the Automotive
Service Association of Arizona.  The City of Mesa also participates.
"Green Shops" set high standards for pollution prevention and resource
conservation and follow procedures designed to minimize waste
generation.

"We are extremely proud to see three more AAA  Approved Auto Repair
facilities added to Arizona's growing list of Green Shops," said Don
Nunnari, vice president of membership products and services for
AAAArizona. "These shops deserve recognition for taking such a proactive
approach toward creating a safer work environment for their staff,
protecting the environment and serving as a model for other businesses
to follow." 

Automotive facilities that receive the Arizona Green Business
certification can display a sign with the Green Business logo, showing
customers that they are doing their part to protect the environment.
