Synopsis and Discussion
A PM-10 HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT
The approach and arrival of a large and powerful upper level trough and
its accompanying surface cold front will bring a major weather change to
the Valley today and Thursday. Strongest sustained winds aloft - 30-45
mph in 5-10K' layer - are expected to arrive over the metro area by 5:00
p.m. and then persist into the late night hours. As a result, an
increasing amount of transported/suspended/blowing dust is still
expected to occur over the Valley during the late afternoon and evening
period and the PM-10 Health Watch issued for today will remain in effect
until midnight. On Thursday showers and a few thunderstorms along with
plunging temperatures are on tap. These conditions will help return air
pollutant concentrations back into the good range of the Air Quality
Index Thursday and Friday. -Reith
