Synopsis and Discussion
An easterly wind regime on Tuesday pushed the local ozone plume toward the west and highest ozone levels were once again measured there. A strong ridge directly overhead today - along with afternoon high temperatures in the middle 80's and more easterly winds - should mean an up-tick in ozone readings over the central Valley. The ridge will weaken on Thursday as a trough develops over the western U.S. Ozone concentrations are predicted to get a boost due to an afternoon wind shift that will move the local ozone plume back to the east toward higher background concentrations, as well as some possible transport from CA late in the afternoon. It now appears that most of the cloud cover & energy and all of the precipitation with this system will bypass the local forecast area. It will be breezy at times from the northwest and north Friday and Saturday; as a result ozone and particle pollution levels are expected to decrease. -Reith
