Synopsis and Discussion
Another round of late-night blowing dust occurred overnight courtesy of a thunderstorm outflow boundary that produced wind gusts of up to 36 mph between midnight and 2:00 a.m. The highest hourly PM-10 (coarse particle) concentration was 711.6ug/m3 at Higley at midnight. Although monsoon storms have been numerous and nearby, since no significant rainfall has occurred yet in the Valley proper, there will continue to be the potential for additional dust episodes. Considerable cloud cover at times kept ozone production down again on Wednesday, and with the current air mass so moist and unstable, cloud formation and/or movement should readily occur again today. By the weekend gradient winds are forecast to become relatively light and some drying of the air mass is possible. Under these conditions local ozone production and accumulation would increase so much higher ozone levels are possible by Saturday and especially on Sunday. NOTE: Due to a state employee furlough day on Friday 7/23, this product will not be updated again until Sunday 7/25. - Reith
