Synopsis and Discussion
Active summer monsoon weather underway already this a.m. with a cluster of showers and thunderstorms on the approach to the Valley from the south. Latest forecast charts are in decent agreement that another significant push of moisture over southern AZ will occur on Thursday. Since it now appears that considerable cloud cover will be present again tomorrow, the maximum forecast ozone levels for Thursday have been scaled back to below the mid-moderate range of the Air Quality Index. It remains to be seen whether local rainfall over the next few days will be sufficient to lessen the potential for outflow-generated blowing dust. For now forecast PM-10 (coarse particle) levels will continue to reflect an above average potential for strong downburst winds and blowing dust to occur. -Reith
