*AN OZONE HEALTH WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THURSDAY, JULY 15, 2010*

Little change is expected the next several days with hot desert temperatures and thunderstorms in the mountains of eastern and northern Arizona. An Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect through Friday as temperatures will soar to 113-117°F. Added moisture will make it feel even hotter. Everyone needs to drink lots of water and take necessary precautions during this period.

Ozone concentrations climbed into the low-to-mid MODERATE range at a couple east Valley sites on Wednesday. It doesn't appear that the forecasted shift to a more northeasterly flow this afternoon will happen now. The latest models suggest a continued light flow from west-northwest to southeast. This again will put the east and southeast parts of the Valley in the Ozone cross-hairs on Friday and Saturday. Look for Tonto National Monument to possibly have a big increase on Friday as well.

The elusive Monsoon storms continue to taunt the Valley from a distance. Local surface dewpoints will increase to the lower 60s this weekend. This will provide additional fuel to the fire in an effort to sustain the storms rolling off the Rim. There is about a 20-25% chance of a storm moving into Phoenix Saturday. This means dust is likely, hopefully followed by rain to clear the air of the accumulating pollution.

Check back on tomorrow for your detailed weekend forecast. Until then, have a good day! -J.Paul
