*WEDNESDAY'S OZONE HEALTH WATCH HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH THURSDAY, JULY 15, 2010 HAS BEEN ISSUED*

Models indicate a shift in winds tomorrow out of the northeast. This means that ozone concentrations will once again get locked up in the Valley for at least 24 hours on Thursday. Accumulations could approach the 8-hr Ozone health standard again on Friday. Thus, we are EXTENDING today's Ozone Health Watch through Thursday. The northeasterly flow will continue on Friday. This may result in slightly lower concentrations as winds will a bit stronger. Highest readings are expected to be in the central and southwest part of the Valley the next couple of days (Central Phoenix, South Phoenix, Phoenix Supersite, Buckeye, etc).

With high pressure struggling to find its Monsoon identity, thunderstorm activity will remain spotty along the Mogollon Rim. A look at longer range models suggests we could be without rain here in the Phoenix forecast area until at least the end of July.

PM10 concentrations continue to be in the GOOD range. Since June 1st, only 5 days saw MODERATE levels, the highest being at Higley (64 AQI) in the southeast part of the Valley. So the increased surface moisture combined with the lack of thunderstorm-generated dust has benefited the Phoenix area's air quality.

Check back on Thursday for more. Until then, have a good day! -J.Paul
