Synopsis and Discussion
A warm weekend is in store for the desert southwest as afternoon temperatures will be flirting with 80°F Saturday and Sunday. High pressure will not be long-lived however, as a cut-off area of low pressure about 1,500 miles southwest of Phoenix (over the Pacific Ocean) will slowly drift northeast and eventually open up. This will pave the way for a move vigorous disturbance with much cooler air to dive south into Arizona Monday. It will drop temperatures State-wide about 10-12 degrees Monday and another 2-4 degrees Tuesday. Rain is possible in the deserts Monday into Tuesday as well as snow in the higher elevations. Particulates should continue to climb slightly this weekend, but possible rain Monday evening will keep levels in the low “Moderate” range at worst. A potential second system next Friday could provide further assurance in keeping particulates down. Check back on Sunday for a closer look at your coming work-week’s weather and air quality. Have a great weekend! –J.Paul
