What Are My Health Risks?

For Soil | There is little to no health risk unless there is contact with skin or ingestion of contaminated soil.

For Groundwater | If you are connected to a Public Water System (PWS) there is little to no risk of impact from exceedances because the water is filtered through the PWS for residential and business use. | View Drinking Water Notices >

Site Summary:

  • Extensive soil characterization has been completed
  • No uranium source identified in soil during investigations
  • A Sulfate Mitigation Order and monitored Aquifer Protection Permit (APP) wells are preventing offsite groundwater impacts
  • ADEQ hosted a kick-off meeting in December 2018 for the formal review of the Baseline Human Health Risk Assessment (BHHRA). Initial review completed by ADEQ in March 2019
  • ADEQ and the Volunteer worked cooperatively on the BHHRA throughout 2019 to address outstanding issues
  • ADEQ received a draft final BHHRA from the Volunteer in December 2019 and issued final comments in January 2020
  • The Volunteer submitted a final BHHRA in February 2020. ADEQ approved the final BHHRA on March 17, 2020
  • On June 8, 2020, the Volunteer submitted a Request for Administrative Closure for the work completed associated with the BHHRA. The VRP issued the Administrative Closure for the CLEAR Plant and Esperanza Mill on June 30, 2020
