Arizona Wins EPA’s Air Quality Flag Program Challenge

SAN FRANCISCO/PHOENIX (June 14, 2016) – Arizona schools won the EPA’s Spring Air Quality Flag Program Challenge to protect people’s health. Schools state-wide are raising brightly colored flags to help students and members of the community be aware of daily air quality conditions. The colored flags correspond to the Air Quality Index to inform community members about air quality forecasts so they can take steps to protect their health.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) is issuing a High Pollution Advisory (HPA) on Tuesday, June 7 for ozone in Maricopa County.

An Ozone Health Watch is being issued for today, June 6, as well, due to stable atmospheric conditions and abundant sunlight. Ozone levels are expected to accumulate enough to exceed the federal health standard on Tuesday, June 7.
