Inspections
ADEQ's Water Quality Field Services Unit is responsible for inspecting public drinking water systems and ensuring compliance with safe drinking water rules and regulations for these facilities.
The unit also is responsible for inspecting permitted and non-permitted wastewater treatment facilities and ensuring compliance with state groundwater and federal surface water rules and regulations.
The unit also responds to and investigates citizen complaints involving such facilities.

Drinking Water Enforcement
ADEQ's Water Quality Enforcement Unit is responsible for undertaking enforcement actions against public drinking water systems when there are violations as listed under Arizona Revised Statutes (A.R.S.) § 49-354 . This authority extends to all counties except Maricopa, to which the state has delegated this authority.
